Last Night

Last night really was a bad night at work to say the least! I do not know what it is about the month of December and losing babies. Maybe it is because this month is usually regarded as a, "happy/holy" month? Mother and Fathers are so excited to deliver, knowing that their little one(s) will be getting the best of care our hospital can offer, after all........ "hope lives here". But, last night my mother delivered twins, both stillborns, full term. They looked absolutely perfect in every way. The loss was devastating and I am still numb.

When to call 911

A man came home to find out he was being burglarized, he was given a Colombian necktie.....he managed to get out of his home while the robbers were upstairs stealing his personal belongings....he managed to drive himself to the hospital....3 miles away, park his car, ride the elevator down and walk to the back of the hospital where the ER is located....once he was walked into the Er, he was immediately taken to the trauma were he was trying to hand his ticket to the nurses to have the ticket validated...he is 86 years old.... God Bless!!!!!

Much unlike the 25 year old male who has vomited one time in the past two days, and decides to call 911 for the free ride to the ER while he has two cars parked in the driveway!! Good Grief!!

Better than Match.com!

If asking the patient her twenty millionth question on admission,...

Oh and Thank God is was not in Labor YET....like her due date, number of prenatal visits, testing done during her pregnancy, pain level, acceptable pain level, receptive to learning, infant car seat, birthing plan, assistance at home, etc...

She declared that we spent more time with her asking these questions and many more that she had never thought possible than the questionnaire she completed on match.com......gotta love hearing that.........................................

I do not have anything new to post. In the famous words of Kevin Arnold's' father from The Wonder Years, "Work is Work". One thing I can NOT stand is to be...not challenged....and recently I have not been challenged, other than keeping my right hand from holding down my left hand, so therefore I do not poke myself in the eye with a pencil point or too!!

Don't fail me now!

I was at a soccer game tonight----I hate going to soccer games when it's SNOWING outside!!!!

But anyway, this crazy soccer mom comes running over to me -dragging her husband,"who, by the way could not care less".

Her-Hey, remember me, ooppps I means us,...don't you remember,.....you delivered me a few years ago...oohhh come on..... how could you forget?!!!!! I delivered at______hospital, Dr.______ just left the room and like two minutes later Johnny(or something like that name) was coming.....don't you remember??!!!!

Me- Ooohhhh, yes, NOW I remember....Geez, how could I forget!!! That's right Dr._______just left the room and you delivered about 2 contractions later, sure,.... I delivered little Johnny. So, where is he---looking around for a stroller or something.

Her-he's sitting over there bundled up.

Me- God, he looks big. How old is he now? I'm thinking to myself, maybe 2-3, but I'm sure it's all the jackets etc...because---it could not have been that long ago.....could it????

Her- Oh, he just turned 7.

Me-WOW, 7....boy, that is hard to believe (me really thinking, WTF? where has the time gone)!!

We ended on small talk. She thanked me for a great delivery and was kidding about how Dr._____came running back into the room after the page and how I was standing there trying to clamp the cord off etc.....

In all honesty....I really did not remember the delivery...I have only caught a few babies over the years and most of the deliveries I ever do remember are the sad/serious ones, maybe a funny one or two....but most I do not....now, if she had some crazy-ass tattoo down there I may have remembered her and the delivery, but obvisously she did not. He is a very cute little man these days, I must say.

I think I'm going to need to do some memory skill games!

Injured Firefighters Are Recovering
by KYW's Hadas Kuznits

One firefighter has been released from the hospital and another is recovering from surgery, after falling through a roof at a fire they were battling Wednesday night.
The fire happened at an auto repair garage near Hegeman and Wingate Streets. Executive Fire Chief Daniel Williams says a cause has now been determined:
"The fire marshal has determined the cause of the fire to be electrical appliance, that is a battery pack, that was being misused."
He says the portion of the business that caught fire was one of the garages at the business. Nevertheless, the entire business has been temporarily shut down:
"The business was issued a cease operations order, and that's for everybody's safety. There were so many violations that the place would have to be corrected, all the violations would have to be corrected before they're allowed to open that business again."
One of the injured firefighters underwent surgery, the other was released from the hospital. Both are expected to recover.

What I should of been.

When I was little there were only two things, I ever thought of being when I got older. One was a Registered Nurse, the other was a Veterinarian. I definitely picked the wrong one! Animals are so much cooler than most of the people and or families members I take care of.

letting go

When I worked the other night- it was very busy. I took the mother of one of our newborns down to see her little one in the NICU and noticed, my favorite patients infant was not in it's room. I was very nervous, I had grown very close to mom/dad and have felt their pain over the past few months.

It came to my attention during the previous week the our dr.'s had finally given the parents a dx. that was VERY bad to say the least. And both Mom and Dad had agreed that this past Saturday night to discontinue care,. They would finally be able to hold their beautiful baby without the tubes and medications.

I was able to spend some time with them and their little one, and as sad and heartbreaking as it was, their baby was just as beauitful as the night I was able to help deliver her/him into this world. I hope to be as strong as they have been in the future and will conitnue to think about their family always.

After many visits to Sunday Stealing, I decided to finally try a Meme. Okay here it goes enjoy!

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find both traditional and unique memes. You may have heard of the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we also have our rules. First, we always credit the blog that we stole it from and we will “fess up” to the blog owner where we stole the meme. We also provide a link to the victim's post. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") We do sometimes edit the original meme, usually to either make it more relevant to our global players, or make it less repetitive.Today we ripped this meme off a blogger called Corin91 at The Deer Yard who claims that it was ripped from Plastiger. And it was probably stolen at that blog as well. But that is as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. It was 100 questions long, but we chopped it down to 15 questions. The reason why it is called The Nudder Meme is anybody's guess. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing! Cheers to all us thieves!

Don't start with me!

Here are some words of advice to my fellow, "co-workers".

1. Just because you have more letters behind your name, it does not in anyway make you a, "better nurse"!

2. Do not Shit where you work- because that just stinks!

3. Don't EVER start me me because I guarantee you will lose EVERY TIME-i.e. like this morning- a&^-hole!!

It made my day- to make you look like a idiot!

Now go home and Have a Great Day!

should of gone to bed earlier.

I worked Saturday night-shift, and was lucky enough to survive that extra hour or so. As I said before....for some unknow reason I always seem to be on for "the Fall Back", just call it bad luck.

I fell asleep on the sofa at a half decent time but only slept for 2 hours, and for the life of me could not fall back to sleep again.

I got up and surfed to VH1 and watched Celebrity Rehab. That is one f-ing depressing show, and that is all I can say about that.

After that show the next reality show came on....it is by far--- the worst show I have ever seen, "Scream Queens" --while I was watching it I needed a drink and some pain meds!! Maybe I'll need to go to Rehab if they don't take it off the air.

Picture of the Day!

Sent from one of my oldest friends----Thanks, It is fitting in my line of work!

Hope, I never see something like this at work!

That is one UGLY baby!

Happy Birthday!

A Very Happy Birthday to my oldest who turned double digits today!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable that so much time has past!!! And to the fact I still look this good four kids later(ha-ha).

It is slightly depressing, to think of all the things, we as a family had gone through, he is a former 29 week preemie. I would have thought by now those feelings would of subsided, but I still can not help but think about the circumstances that lead up to the delivery--parental guilt---was it my fault? Of course not, but after a decade, those feelings still linger.

He picked out the most incredible cake recipe for his birthday dinner and God was it good!!!!

Happy Birthday Big Man, time for Mom to hit the treadmill, I would not of had it any other way!!!!!!!

Our Trip to California

I wanted to write so much, after our trip to California but did not have the time, then it was back to work, back to the same old stuff.

So here it is in a nutshell.

When I was younger, living with my Grandmother, she always told some weird stories about when she lived in California, so I never really thought I would like it. I did spend a short amount of time there waiting for a connection after coming back from Tahiti, so that experience never really counted.

Now California is a place, I may like to live, perhaps even retire! The weather of course was beautiful, warm or hot during the day and cool at night - almost reminded me of the Pocono's during the summer.

Everyone, and I mean everyone was ssoooo nice to us. From the family at Universal Hollywood to the Love Ride. We ran into a lot of "transplants" from the East Coast, and this nice young couple, the gentleman grew up in Wildwood Crest- imagine that! I vacationed in Wildwood Crest, every summer as a young kid.

We drove all the way to Carney's to see if, it was true about the Hot Dogs and Burgers, and yes, they are pretty darn good!

The only complaint was driving on those freeways! Even if we drove 80 miles per hour, we were being passed by, like we were not even moving, it was a pretty scary thought! It made driving on I-95 like a good thing.

We really needed to getaway, since we NEVER have anytime to ourselves, and the fact we never see each other, hence the fact we have been married so long. Make me wonder, where all our kids came from!?

The Tubes and Foo's put on a great concert, sort of didn't see much of the ZZ Top, but heard they were fantastic.

Well, that is it in a nutshell....Oh Yes, I'm working again tonight-imagine that not 12 hours, but 13 plus...I swear I have to plan it better...I think I have worked every Daylights savings time in the fall for the past 15 years! Go Figure.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Dave Grohl

Well, here is one of many photos taken from Love Ride 2008. We had a great time. I still can not hear out of my right ear, once again the aftermath effect of seeing the Foo's. I have so many things to blog about from our trip, once everyone is settled down, I'll post more!!

Theme song??

For some reason, I can not get the Foo Fighter's song, DOA out of my head and if you read any of my posts below, you will know why.

Everytime I go into work, I'm thinking about this song...I'm considering making it the theme song for my new Unit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2_0Rx780Uk

WTF do any of us know anyway!

Absolutely Nothing!

I wrote a small blog on August 14, "My Job"

The last few lines says it all. "My favorite patient whom I have taken care of over the past few weeks delivered recently, and her baby has not a chance of survival. Her baby lies in the NICU, ventilated, sedated, chest tubes and all".

Her beautiful baby boy was discharged to home a few days ago!

I'm glad she followed her heart and believed, there was "Hope"! Maybe it is here?

God Speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something that scares me!

Pregnant women in general, then throw in the added congenital defect babies to the mix and there you have my job...all wrapped up with a pretty bow!

But on another note....

A mother came in at term with general non-specific complaints. I thank God, I made her give a quick urine and sent it down and the lab stat, the urine looked horrid- very dark and very concentrated and not a heck of a lot of it either...she had a slight headache, not touched even the slightest with Tylenol, and neck pain-in the back of her neck left sided and some arm discomfort, she was contracting, it was not being picked up well via the monitor but by palpating her abdomen, she was contracting every 3-4 minutes- moderate to strong, the baby was behaving well for the time being, and yes and she had some nicely elevated Blood Pressures to say the least. No edema at all. She was seen in Outpatient the day before and had none of the above. The only thing worth noting was that she was beyond,"crazy", would not sit still, could not stop complaining about everything, and our group has always talked so highly of her and her family.

Needless to say the protein level was greater than 100, and we sent down every bit of blood work you can imagine for PIH labs. Platelets dropped to 40 and liver enzymes were to highest ever recorded by our MFM team.

Final diagnosis? Yup, you guessed it HELLPS. I really do not like even typing it, it is very scary.

She had no risk factors for developing it, except one....she is a nurse, who works at our hospital.

Voodoo Medicine Man!!!!!!

Welcome Vodoo Medicine Man!

I've read some of your post and am enjoying it!

Blogging

Well, I have been blogging about 2 months now and thank you to all my readers, for letting me rant and pour out my heart and soul.

I have not been very good lately...mostly due to my job and because of the start of school. Soon my hours will change with work..........I can not wait!! I am going to drop my hours down, I don't really know how we are going to do that...I really need to see where we can cut back.

My goal is going to be to blog at least once, if not twice every week....so stayed tuned for further updates!

Yes, YOU!

Yes, You!

You, who are reading this blog, drop me a line...let me know what you think I know you are out there!

And by the way,...... 2 sets of my keys have been missing since August, if you see them or have them...please email me!!

What were my last few days of work like?

So, What were my last few days of work like...?

Exhausting to say the least!

Day, one started with a ...a...aaaa " slow", yikes...night...gosh, I do not like to say that word---EVER!

Day Two, ....yup, ..you said it "busy!" See, I opened my Big Mouth!

I met this lovely, lovely family from down South. The family was told some very interesting news, totally wrong, but very interesting and god knows, they were told, there was, "Hope."

So, there they were in the waiting room prior to me going home, did you ever get that feeling that when you come back into work that night it would be crappy????!

So, there I was coming into work, the Unit filled with tears..etc, etc.....

The Family was scheduled for a C/Section in the am, one baby VERY, VERY sick the other, Not Compatible with Life.

I stayed for the section, I thought it would be an opportunity........why not, I probably will not see anything like it again, or now at least I hope I never will. It was the wrong thing to do because now it has been a few days, and my heart aches for that family and for that little baby.

Oh yeah, don't let me forget the mother had a positive UDS, for more drugs than we could account for...Ggrrrhhhh!!!! I'm sure it had nothing to do with what happened to that little one, but it pisses me off to know end that maybe she will take home the other one, if everything goes well. I hate to think that baby does not stand a chance after everything it will go through!

The next day,..next family...different circumstances, same outcome, only one baby...S*&^!

The next family--Great News, totally expecting something Horrid, and Everything is Well, ..."Normal?"

Is there, "HOPE?" Who Knows?????

Something that made me laugh!

This Made Me Giggle!

The Other Day I decided to order a Pizza and some other food for the kiddo's and Other-Half prior to my departure to work, the other -half was in route to home..... and in that massive rush, I was trying to get ready for work, clean the house up and take a quick shower, pack a bag for the long 12 plus hour night-shift etc....

When I was starting to head down the stairs, in as little as 30 minutes the kiddo's managed to rip apart the house by the front door, toss blankets around, and my sweet elderly neighboor decided to drop off some old toys that her grandson had once played with, they were now EVERYWHERE......needless to say I was not HAPPY!!!!!

I did not know the Pizza Man was at the front door, eventhough now I think the 9 year had tried to tell me at least once, there he was half in the front door, half not-I came down the steps a little VEXED, yelling slightly asking, the normal,"Who, What, and the What gave you the bright idea,?" etc...the Pizza Man to my surprise, said, "Lady, it was not me, I swear, I just Got Here!"....

I gave him a big whopping tip-he made my day!

My Life is passing me by?

My Life is passing me by?

Why...I work way toooo much and am stretching myself to my limits---or should I say stretching my patience.
I have been very busy,...Imagine that...Full-time Mother of 4 kids under the ages of 9, full-time worker, full-time soccer mother, one on a traveling team, 2 others of home leagues and in all honestly my 2 1/2 year old can run drills better than the boys on the traveling team, I think I can sense a scholarship or at least I hope so, with this economy, God only knows if we'll have any money by the time they are ready for college!

A Reason to Believe---In What?

A reason to believe--- in what?

I find myself totally confused in what I do at my job and in all honestly--it is pushing me to my limits on what I believe in anymore, or if I believe in anything at all.

Parents come to us, with little hope- for their unborn child, and we are pushing the limits on medicine, saving such young lives. We are pioneers in fetal medicine and there are days, that are wonderful and then there are days when grief is just the word of the day.

I have never been too much of a "holy-roller', even though I was raised Strict Catholic by my Grandmother, and because of that--- it is the reason I find myself so far distant as an adult. Pushed and pushed into the Catholic Faith and made to go to church and pray everyday etc.......

I have found myself questioning my faith and beliefs especially for the last few months with the job change.

I have some things I do believe in like Karma- what comes around goes around, and that people come into your life for various reasons, there is a purpose, at the time we may not know, but there is a reason.

I gave up on hope, this past week, I can not explain the reason why, but I did, I really thought that I was going to leave my job, but when I met my patient the other night, she gave me, "Hope!"

After all, "hope lives here".

Part 2 Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters Friend or Foe?

......Part 2

Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters (Friend or Foe)?

Yes, this past week totally sucked, why you asked?

What's up with the Foo's taking a long break?
Sorry to hear that, I definitely believe everyone deserves a break, but 10 years??? Seriously take some time off.
All the Foo's should focus on side projects, family and friends but please do not let it be 10 years!! Please NO!

A Really True Friend!

So, I really wanted to see the Foo's this past year and unfortunaly, was unable to see them in my home-town.

I wanted to travel by myself to Indiana and see them but the Other Half was not to keen on that idea, so The Other Half agreed, to go a see them with me at the Meadowlands..................and the rest is history.

Prior to us going to see the Foo's at the Meadowlands.......

I had to work fast to bring The Other Half up to speed. For 2 months before the concert it is the only thing I would play--in the house, in the car...pretty much everywhere and anywhere.
From our vacation in Virginia to four minutes before we entered the Izod Center.

The Other Half was quite impressed, so many of the songs, he already knew and that he enjoyed so many of them too.

So, there we were @ The Meadowlands and he had a Religious Experience and now he is a total convert. Now, how to I know this?

The other day, upon telling him about the long break the Foo's where going to have..he said, "WHAT!?" "F#&!" Spoken just like Dave Grohl would!

Then, he mentions again, "Is there anyway we can get out of going to your cousin's wedding, then we could go to Vegas to see them?"

Well, if looks could kill he would be dead, and that was an understatement!

"Well, is there any other shows we could see them at?", he asked.

Well, LOVE RIDE-HERE WE COME!!!

From the City, we call home to California, only about 2,688 miles.

**This is the reason I'm married to The Other Half.**

All of the things I must blog about(Part 1)

.......Part 1

Growning up I was REALLY into Pink Floyd...........

Sad news on the loss of Richard William Wright...He will definitely be missed.

Where have you been?

Okay, once again...I have been MIA...why you ask because the care @ my local ER was ssooo great.

I was once again sick to say the least, this time though unfortunately admitted on IV antibiotics---and by the way I would never put my worst enemy on Levaquin.

And that is all I may going to say, because otherwise I would violate my own HIPAA privacy rights.

Good news...I am finally feeling somewhat better!!

somethings piss me off

One thing that really pisses me off...calling after hours because you need your electricity turned on now and you want the form completed like yesterday and now at 2330 it is an emergency!!!!!!!!!!.

Doesn't the electric company send out 3 warnings prior to doing so? or maybe try and call you first before doing so?

Was it that you gave them the wrong number to your 3 different cell phone numbers? Because I noticed that they are still all working?

Some answers are Priceless

So, occasionally The Other Half needs to ride with EMS/Fire Rescue, as part of his job. They received a call very early in the am about some man bleeding.

Being we live in a Big Screwed Up City--it could be anything from a paper cut to a gun shot wound.

So, he and his partner showed up in the Rig. They found a 30 something year old man sitting on the curb with blood soaked clothing and a towel wrapped over his arm.

The man was very hesitant to remove it, but after some talking too, the man removed the towel so The Other Half and his partner could take a look.

The man was missing one of his fingers, when asked what had happened to it, the man replied, "when I woke up this morning it was gone!"

Thank you for making me VOMIT!

Oohh Lord, I was sick Tuesday---to say the least!

About 5 days before one of our Dr.'s was deathly ill(severe vomiting), which I would bet was viral now----- I started an IV(3 liters) and gave some Zofran, we put her to bed in one of the patients rooms and we found coverage for her for the rest of the night etc....... partly for pity reasons partly because her husband is some BIG plastic surgery guy at a Huge hospital near by( here is to hoping she will put a good word in for me to her husband!!)

A few months back my kids and Other Half were watching a re-run of Jon and Kate, you know the one where she showed off her stomach to the world and some wife of a plastic surgeon saw the show and asked him to do the surgery for free. My kids thought that was funny and said, "Geez Mom your stomach looks worse than that)! And to think I only had 4 kids and 4 C-sections 2 classical and 2 low transverse incisions! I have now accepted reality. no matter how much weight I have lost ---that jelly roll will never go away! No matter how much I exercise or abdominal exerices I do, it will not leave without the intervention of surgery!

Hence the nice thought above... so there I was about 5 days after the doctors severe vomitng, then I started------I thought I was going to die ---literally in and out of consciousness, with my head stuck in a toilet!

Isn't that a lovely picture.

Where has the summer gone?

Where has the summer gone?

In just less than 4 hours, my two oldest children will start back to grade school! And tomorrow the two youngest will follow- One starting Pre-K and the other--dare I say, Nursery School.

We will finally have the house all to ourselves Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9a-3p. Of course depending on our schedules too.
I once worked with a woman, who at the time had 7 kids, now she has 10--she told me, "it was going to be depressing this year, I'm only going to have 4 kids at home with during the day."?!
I thought she was crazy-but I'm actually going to miss the little ones==Now Who Is Crazy??!!!

Eventhough, I am so happy for them to be back in school-I feel as though this summer completely went by us and I did not have enough time off.

We made a nice list together of all the things we would like to do during the summer and only accomplished a few a them. I hope next summer we get to do almost everything on the list!

Sink issues

My other half can not fix anything, WATER RELATED!

I could blog an entire novel on all the things during our 12+ years of marriage, the other half as tried to fix, but that would be mean.(LOL)

What started as an occasional drip from the kitchen sink is now running at 150cc/hour- and NO, I am NOT kidding!
