No Way!

An old patient of mine, decided to call the Labor and Delivery department to let me know she is expecting once again this August!

It was very thoughtful of her, you see... she is a G14, P12 and I delivered her last 7, yes, thats right..I was the nurse on when she delivered her last 7 children. Hard to believe but true, she specifically asked if she could call me when she goes into labor with number 13. Kind -of - an -honor, kind-of Crazy!

Super Delivery

Last night, I had a wonderful delivery for me--- anyway. Patient was a G2, P1 laboring patient, who was pretty sure her water broke on the way to the hospital---husband pretty much confirmed this too.

She came in pretty upset, she only started to have ctx. over the past 30 minutes, and her water probably broke 10 minutes prior to her arrival. She was screaming or shouting something about an epidural, but after making it through triage in a record time of 2 minutes she delivered a beautiful Baby Girl via her pant-leg and amazingly enough, did not sustain an tears and or lacerations. Though her pants were laid to rest and the fact she was insisting on an epidural post delivery---it was an amazingly fast delivery.

Mother and baby were healthy and happy as could be:) It made my night. See, somedays I really do enjoy my job!

Really!?

So, today I spent much of the day at the Pool Club. I finally broke down and decided to buy some extra snack foodie things for the kiddo's. The total came to $5.50. I handed the young girl, she was about 16 yrs. old a $20.00 bill. She turned to the girl behind her, who looked about 10 and asked her how much change she should give me. WTF?! Is this what I have to look forward to as these young people take over the world.

So, many of you know how I feel about preeclampic patients they can be VERY, VERY Scary!

Like last night.....Patient had Major Neurological event dispite proper interventions and protocols=MAJOR lawsuit.


Pretty much can say this was the worst night to date I have ever worked in 16 years!!!!

Welcome Home!!!!

Yes, I have returned from my wonder trip to California, and while I truly enjoyed my time on the West Coast, it is good to be home again with the children.



I can not believe that we managed to get away from the chaos of home life for 7 days and 6 joyous nights. AAHhhhhh!!! What a joy:))



So, how was the trip, you ask.......????? First, what is up with American Airlines charging $55.00 for one extra bag?? The airport and flying is always my favorite thing to do:))



When we arrived to the airport there had to be 200 military men and women checking in at the same time...and lucky for me when my bag weighed over 54 pounds and not the required 50 pounds, my husband unzipped my suit case, there on the floor and tossed the contents all over the place to grab some things that were heavy, like shoes, by the way which were on the bottom to place those items into another bag, and when he was doing so, he managed to toss my cute hot pink bra and xxx- panties etc... all over the place...thank you the compliments, Uncle Sam, it was great for the servicemen to have something to think about for their flight, and yes, thank you to the Other Half too!



I am the biggest chicken when it comes to flying, and mental note to PCP- Ativan 2 mgs. does NOT work, yet again! I only screamed out loud two times, making the stewardess, comes and ask if she could anything as when were ascending into the beautiful skies. The Other Half, I think asked for a gag but that may have been me just hearing things. My knuckles were so white and the Rosary could not be said fast enough....I swore we were never going to get off the tarmac and into the air. We seemed to bounce up and down way to many times and not seem to be going fast enough to actually get off the ground, but yes, we did...I had the crazy thought that we would possibly skid off the runway and explode off the side of the road, maybe due to the weight of all that luggage, mine being the main reason, or possibly that the crew would just drop the load onto the ground and I would never see any of my things again...Yes, crazy I know...what an imagination.



First stop was The Sunset Marquis, I would highly recommend staying there, we had a wonderful time. We met many musicians, of course. And experienced our first earthquake and aftershock while at the Sunset. We had free passes to Equinox gym and saw more celebrities there. I made reservations at Mr. Chow a month before our trip, the food was fantastic, Do NOT drink any champagne! I was kidding when I said it would probably cost $30.00 per glass,---no it cost $45.00, and I drank two glasses. I'm glad The Other Half picked up an extra 24 hour shift prior to us leaving for the trip. Gosh, I'll be paying for that meal for a while, but it was worth it!!



The Grove was okay, same stores as in this area, nothing fancy, however the Farmers Market had great food and vendors. I had some delicious butter cookies with Jimmy's on them!!! Yummy!!



We stayed in Pasadena at The Langham Hotel and Spa for the rest of our 3 days. The hotel is gorgeous!!! We met Dennis Rodham and his family was very nice, but that dude is tall and freaking scary to say the least!:))

Venice Beach was quite depressing, something very one should see once, but then get the heck out of there. Some homeless man had a cardboard sign, stating he would work for marijuana?....Really are you serious???

Santa Monica was lovely, along with Malibu and riding up the Pacific Coast Highway was breathtaking.....

We saw one Large bush fire in the distance only to realize it was not far from the hotel...that was a little scary, but overall,....I would love to move out there and soak up the sun, sand and surf with the mountains in the background for the rest of my life, AAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night was crazy ass busy in the unit as always! Stat c-section, baby with a bad diagnosis and not enough help. Begged for help for administration, only to hear we are doing what we can???WTF!!!!! Wait until someone dies and or better yet a baby dies, then we will have more help than we need!

Whats New?

Hello everyone! Yes, I have been MIA. We have been ssooooo busy at work and I've been to tired after night shift to post, but here is bits of craziness from my last two shifts or so:

A. Does having a baby really hurt that bad? Response to her was I had a patient ask me to shoot her once! Did you sign for the epidural just in case?

B. I had a patient refusing to push just at the end, she needed to reconsider ,"this whole Mother thing"! That was the smartness bit of information I heard all day:)

C. This was from working in triage: So, if my water breaks and say I'm like swimming, like in the ocean, how will I know? Response was Good Grief!

D. This was overheard by my the patient who didn't get the epidural to her sister who was pregnant, "Be prepared to die, it hurts make sure you get the epidurally thingy"

E. And last but not least, My patient who wanted to go natural who was doing such a great job, begged me to knock her out with my reflex hammer!

How was your day???

How was your day??? Well, here is an update on the last day or two I have worked.

We had an emergency C-Section, that took over 2 hours to close her. Why you ask because I was working with Dr. Slow-Pants good Lord I hate doing sections in the middle of the night. My feet were actually starting to ache in the OR, and by the way, seriously an 11 sutures count and 40 laps, she was a prime section for Christ Sakes!!!!

Second delivery was the second most bloody delivery I have ever attended. I am NOT kidding when I say, the vaginal delivery room looked like a triple homicide, blood was not only pouring out of MOM, due to the lovely 3 rd degree laceration and uterine atony, but the room obvisiously is slight graded to the left because the blood ran out into the hallway, boy nothing like making the NICU team uncomfortable and wanting to throw up(that was actually funny:). Mom will not sitting correctly for a long time let alone sex will probably never be the same, I think it was a 4th degree but that was just me, but what would I know I was too busy massaging her uterus, hanging IV fluid, giving methergine, getting blood and calling for more backup. It took over 3 hours to sow her up. Her doo-da was so swollen and bruised, she will most like have a hematoma, putting in the foley was horrible. Good Lord!!!

1. My uncle once : Took me to the local ice-skating rink, walked me out to the middle of the ice and left me there, he made his way off the ice and stood on the side lines. I learned how to ice skate on my own when I was 7. I am so grateful to him ... I still love to ice skate!!

Overheard at the grocery store!

The other day, I ran to the store to pick up a few things for The Other Half's Big Birthday dinner.

Not to bad considering I only needed a few items. I was completely and utterly exhausted after working a 12 hour night-shift that some how turned into a 14 hour night shift with a 2 hour commute, but that in itself is another story.

Overheard while placing my groceries from my shopping cart to the register was: "I make loads of money....And since my wife and I are newly divorced, meeting new women has been harder than I thought." Me, I'm thinking, "Really because I'm sure your appearance has nothing to do with it!"

Man was 50 something, almost totally bald, dress shirt- nice shirt by the way, buttoned down, one button to low, sort looks like Chewbacca, 2 thick gold chains wearing sweat pants--too loose and too short, and a pair of black socks with navy blue crocs.

Okay, it's bad enough, I deal with Labor and Delivery and Afterbirth's screaming women, and incensitive FOB's and Family Members and or whatever......but please Lord, give me one patient soon who literally does not smell.

Please Lord, do not let them bring in horrible smelling McDonald's that will sit at the bedside or have them place it some where in the room that I can not find so it does not stink up the entire room and or floor of the rest of the night. Also, if you could just give the family a bad stomach virus if they even think about eating in front of their woman, while she is laboring that would be great too. Because that is just down right rude.

Please Lord, let one FOB/Husband not have the worst smelling feet under the beautiful sun you have created for just one week out of my life I would be forever grateful.

Please Lord, let us not have another patient and family members with a bad case of Pediculosis capitis for the rest of the year.

18. Last phone call you received? From the other half this afternoon, he wanted to make sure I was not completely losing my mind with the kiddo's---how thoughtful!!! I worked two night shifts in a row, after my last shift I needed to attend a class, so I was up for more than 24 hours and #4 has been sick, she was up whining and crying all night.

We were at a local night-club, seeing some local bands.....some of our friends were giving us a hard time about not being allowed to invite a date....this was something me and the future other half really put a lot of time into, we had discussed this situation over and over again and we came up with a plan. But this night he was partying more with the boys and I with the girls and he started to say things like, well maybe we should let ____ bring a date. And I lost my cool, started to really, really yell at the EXACT time the band stopped one of their songs, about 150 people turned around as I was yelling at him and since he was not playing attention to me I grab and punched his arm...he is 6 ft. 1.5 inches and he pushed me away, gently when the bouncers started to remove him from his club and then I jumped on one of the bouncers back hitting him. Needless to say, we were thrown out of the bar in freezing November weather with no ride home, and yes, we were totally hammered and had great make-up sex later:)

5. What is your favorite curse word? Unfortunately @ the present time it is f*&^-tard.

6. What sound or noise do you love? I love hearing children laugh and giggle, especially my own.

7. What sound or noise do you hate? Any type of whining and or crying, especially when my children are doing it.

8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt? A veterinarian
