How was your day??? Well, here is an update on the last day or two I have worked.
We had an emergency C-Section, that took over 2 hours to close her. Why you ask because I was working with Dr. Slow-Pants good Lord I hate doing sections in the middle of the night. My feet were actually starting to ache in the OR, and by the way, seriously an 11 sutures count and 40 laps, she was a prime section for Christ Sakes!!!!
Second delivery was the second most bloody delivery I have ever attended. I am NOT kidding when I say, the vaginal delivery room looked like a triple homicide, blood was not only pouring out of MOM, due to the lovely 3 rd degree laceration and uterine atony, but the room obvisiously is slight graded to the left because the blood ran out into the hallway, boy nothing like making the NICU team uncomfortable and wanting to throw up(that was actually funny:). Mom will not sitting correctly for a long time let alone sex will probably never be the same, I think it was a 4th degree but that was just me, but what would I know I was too busy massaging her uterus, hanging IV fluid, giving methergine, getting blood and calling for more backup. It took over 3 hours to sow her up. Her doo-da was so swollen and bruised, she will most like have a hematoma, putting in the foley was horrible. Good Lord!!!

tattoo to tooth ratio vs. IQ score and pregnancy ratio?
If the combined total of my patient and her husband's I.Q. was 70 or more, then I would be utterly shocked and probably willing to take back this comment.
Good Grief and they are about to become parents.

Overheard at the grocery store!
The other day, I ran to the store to pick up a few things for The Other Half's Big Birthday dinner.
Not to bad considering I only needed a few items. I was completely and utterly exhausted after working a 12 hour night-shift that some how turned into a 14 hour night shift with a 2 hour commute, but that in itself is another story.
Overheard while placing my groceries from my shopping cart to the register was: "I make loads of money....And since my wife and I are newly divorced, meeting new women has been harder than I thought." Me, I'm thinking, "Really because I'm sure your appearance has nothing to do with it!"
Man was 50 something, almost totally bald, dress shirt- nice shirt by the way, buttoned down, one button to low, sort looks like Chewbacca, 2 thick gold chains wearing sweat pants--too loose and too short, and a pair of black socks with navy blue crocs.
Go Figure!

Some people just Smell!!!
Okay, it's bad enough, I deal with Labor and Delivery and Afterbirth's screaming women, and incensitive FOB's and Family Members and or whatever......but please Lord, give me one patient soon who literally does not smell.
Please Lord, do not let them bring in horrible smelling McDonald's that will sit at the bedside or have them place it some where in the room that I can not find so it does not stink up the entire room and or floor of the rest of the night. Also, if you could just give the family a bad stomach virus if they even think about eating in front of their woman, while she is laboring that would be great too. Because that is just down right rude.
Please Lord, let one FOB/Husband not have the worst smelling feet under the beautiful sun you have created for just one week out of my life I would be forever grateful.
Please Lord, let us not have another patient and family members with a bad case of Pediculosis capitis for the rest of the year.
Please , Please....

But this night he was partying more with the boys and I with the girls and he started to say things like, well maybe we should let ____ bring a date. And I lost my cool, started to really, really yell at the EXACT time the band stopped one of their songs, about 150 people turned around as I was yelling at him and since he was not playing attention to me I grab and punched his arm...he is 6 ft. 1.5 inches and he pushed me away, gently when the bouncers started to remove him from his club and then I jumped on one of the bouncers back hitting him. don't like to say this, but....
Al rightly then....
I really do not like working with some of our doctors.......
a). Dr. Know -It-All...seriously, he does...he writes all the medical and surgical stuff on what our Unit does....pretty crazy---he has the sickest sense of humor---very dry, not sure on how to read him...but over all I would want him to take care of me.
b). Dr. Mc Lovely-very smart-very good looking, the patients love him...hard to not like him.....sometimes, he can be a smart-ass(okay pretty much all the time)...but who cares...he hardly gets along with his co-horts in crime, but it is a love hate relationship, kind of has the same relationships with the nurses too.
c). Dr. Overly-Cautious...Love her, but almost too caring...thinks every patient is going to... abrupt, is in preterm labor, is pre eclampic etc....-Love her...teases relentlessly..in a good way and is a great teacher!
Then the others.......
d.) Dr. Who? never work with her...maybe once in the past 3 months....
e.) Dr. Nip-Tuck- get surgeon, great at managing the patients, does not get enough/or take enough credit.
f.) Dr. Don't -bother me---takes the cake.....he has his own issues...fifty going on three, completely lazy and immature, bordering on sexual misconduct.....he is going to either get killed by a nurse soon or he is going to kill a patient soon...not sure which will happen first, but I'm betting on one of us to take him out!

thank you
There are so many days that I question myself, if I should continue on with my new job....because it has been the most emotionally challenging job I have ever held.
As soon as I decide, tonight is going to be the end of it...I will officially request a transfer, something big happens at work and I change my mind.
Saturday night- shift was one of those days...I decided that I will call Human Resources on Monday and beg for a transfer.
Then I was told by another RN to check my mailbox.....in my mailbox I found a lovely card from a patient and her family...thanking me for all of the time and emotional support I gave them, during the lose of their infant, along with gifts.
It is something we as Rn's do got see often enough, or if ever, and then it reminds me why I choose nursing as a career in the first place.
Looks like I'll be staying a little while longer.
After all, "Hope Lives Here"!

don't have to much to say!
Sorry I have not been able to write much, complete writers block to say the least.
I'm not writing much about nursing anymore because work is way to depressing, when you work for one of the only hospitals that does fetal surgery/treatment, it completly sucks!
I need to transfer to another department before I lose my mind and go Ape Shit at work one day soon.
Plus, I finally found the Twilight series..........hopefully I will finish book four by the end of this long weekend ahead of me, I am scheduled for the entire weekend for night shift.
More to come....at least I hope!

Sunday Stealing
Today we ripped off TWO memes and made them one! The first five questions are stolen from blogger Emily Rosenbaum at Wheels on a Bus. She explains she grabbed it from Lola's blog, and since Lola "is the sassiest of mamas" Emily titled the meme as The Sassiest Meme. So that's the story of today's title. The final five questions were ripped from Midlife Mama from the blog Midlife Musings. She stole it from her "dear friend" over at Midlife Slices where it was originally written. So, it is almost a virgin meme. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing! Cheers to all us thieves! Sunday Stealing: The Sassy Meme
1. If you could say anything you wanted to say to George Bush, what would you say? Good-Freaking Bye, don't let the door hit you on your ass on the way out!
2. If you had to be the mother of Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan, who would you choose and why? Goodness, now that is a hard one, but I think I'd have to go with Britney.

3. You get to be Queen for a day. The kids are all taken care of, and you can spend as much money as you want. What do you do all day? Take a very long nap, I would imagine I would sleep very well because no one would be waking me up to ask any questions, then I would take a long drive in my new hybrid SUV to the spa for a deep massage, manicure, wax, hair cut etc.... then off to a romantic dinner with the The Other Half with no one else there but the Foo's playing our favorite songs after dinner and then getting hammered with Dave Grohl and Taylor afterwards, and the best part NO-hangover the following morning!
4. Is there a song that brings tears to your eyes every time you hear it? If so, which one? Daddy's Little Girl, especially at weddings-it gets me every time.
5. A fairy taps you on the shoulder and tells you that you can either have a perfect face or a perfect body for the rest of your life. Which do you choose? Definitely the Body, I have a personal reason why, but that is for another time.
6. If you could live any place in the world and money was no object, where would you live and why? We recently traveled to Southern California and I would love to move somewhere warmer...even though I have always loved the cold winter months for some reason this year has be hard for me on the East Coast and if money was no object we could visit the East Coast for the holidays.
7. What is your biggest regret in life? Just not listening to my Parents and Grandmother.
8. If you could go back and visit one person in your life who is now dead, and ask one question, what would that question be and why would you ask it? My Aunt Kathy died when I was 5 in a terrible car accident. I was at my Grandmothers home the night it happened when the police took us to the hospital. I would love to know exactly what happened that night, the reason why etc..... The accident occurred over 30 years ago, I feel as if there has never been proper closure.
9. If you had the choice to age forward (like we are now) or aging backwards (think Benjamin Buttons) which would you choose and why? Forward
10. What will the epitaph on your headstone say? Wonderful Wife and Mother
